The Nike Air Max 90 shifted sneaker culture as the Swoosh reinvented Air. With its exposed Air unit and the window on the midsole, the masses saw the tech and soon became a classic.
Since 1990, the Air Max 90 has been at the forefront of iconic colorways and coveted sneaker collaborations that tell Nike’s story alongside the tales that fuel sneaker culture.
The Nike Air Max 90 "Bacon" is the epitome of Nike's storytelling through the 90 silhouette. Dave Ortiz, the founder of Dave's Quality Meat, opened up a concept store in Manhattan's Bowery-section inspired by a veal shop he would pass by on his commute. The "meat shop" became the epicenter of culture due to its unique design and wide selection of carefully curated products.
Nike tapped Dave to create a pair in 2004. While expectations were undoubtedly high, the result exceeded them as the collaboration became a multigenerational icon. With the 90 as the canvas, the concept store came to life with the help of a delicacy. After ordering a bacon, egg, and cheese, the idea was conceived. Dave purchased packs of bacon and sourced a Pantone book to perfectly capture the essence of the cured cuts of pork belly.
Nike goes back to 2004 for Air Max Day as DQM's Nike Air Max 90 "Bacon" returns. Who's ready for seconds?
