In 1989, Tinker Hatfield followed up the Air Jordan 3 with an even more innovative shoe for his Airness. The Air Jordan 4 included the signature “Nike Air” heel tab with a more prominent design that could be spotted from afar. The side mesh panels, the lateral wings for support and structure, and the shoe’s “Flight” tongue tag perfectly captured MJ’s on-court nature.
Off the court, the Air Jordan 4 evolved into a streetwear and pop culture staple (as many Jordans have). From a cameo in Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing to countless celebrity spotlights, the Air Jordan 4 is a fan-favorite.
In 2006, Jordan Brand entered a new era of the Air Jordan 4, headlined by the Air Jordan 4 “thunder and Lighnntng” pack. Both dopped exclusively on Jumpman23.com, the central hub for Jordan Brand back in the day. Retailing for $250 and packed with a special “Flight” shirt, the Thunder and Lightning pack sparked the game like never before.
Following last year’s long-awaited return of the AJ4 “Lightning” colorway, the “Thunder” colorway is back with a new look as its black nubuck details remain true. At the same time, red components are substituted for the yellow once stood.
The online raffle for the Air Jordan 4 “Crimson” (aka “Red Thunder”) is open now. Stay tuned to Manor Phoenix for more Jordan Brand releases and details.
